Chemical laboratory technician, apprenticeship year 2020
My first day at DMG:
My first day at DMG started with a round of apprentice introductions, followed by a short presentation to give us an idea of the company. The apprentices were given the opportunity to get to know each other better over lunch, and then we were taken to our workplaces where we were introduced to our new work colleagues.
What I particularly enjoy:
I particularly enjoy the product-oriented part of my work, as well as learning about chemicals and gaining the skills that are needed for day-to-day lab work.
My biggest challenge:
One of the greatest challenges in my everyday laboratory work is the precision of the work, something that is essential in many areas of a chemical laboratory technician's job.
What the apprenticeship at DMG means to me:
An apprenticeship at DMG and positive working environment will enable me to become a competent chemical laboratory technician.

Business Management Assistant, apprenticeship year 2021
My first day at DMG:
I remember my first day at DMG as one filled with excitement and anticipation. Everything was new: the people, the environment, the day-to-day routines. But as soon as I entered the building, my initial anxiety faded away. We were given a warm reception and, during the official welcome event, all the apprentices had a chance to get to know each other and to get an impression of what was in store for us. We were given a lot of information before we eventually got to visit the department where we would be working each day for the next 8 weeks. After a joint lunch and lots of product training, I went home with a lot of new impressions and was excited about the coming weeks at DMG.
What I particularly enjoy:
What really appealed to me about the apprenticeship as a management assistant is that you get an overview of the whole company and can find out for yourself what really suits you. I really enjoy the different tasks that come my way every day and the interaction with colleagues from all over the company – even if it's only a short chat in the kitchen. It's a good way to get to know your own strengths better.
My biggest challenge:
Because I'm new, there haven't been that many situations that have turned out to be a challenge. But something I personally find really difficult is talking to customers on the phone. On the one hand, I want to come across as knowing my way round DMG’s products (ideally, so that the other person doesn't even notice that I'm a trainee), but on the other hand, it's usually not possible because my knowledge of the products is still too limited. So I always need a bit of time to make the call, but luckily my colleagues are all very patient with me. Plus, as a beginner, it's always a challenge to do your tasks well and to make a good impression day after day.

My first day at DMG:
I spent my first day at DMG with some really friendly staff members and apprentices, so I had a relaxed and smooth start to this new chapter of my life.
What I particularly enjoy:
So far, I've really enjoyed already being able to do some basic wiring on the control cabinets in Production. I also always enjoy making deliveries to those working in Production.
My biggest challenge:
When it comes to manual mechanical work in the workshop, there is the unavoidable problem that a single significant error on a piece of work (involving hours of effort) can make that piece unusable. I face this challenge armed with the knowledge that I am gaining more and more experience and that the mistakes are becoming progressively fewer. To put it another way: with each unusable piece of work, the next one is more likely to be perfect.

Finished school and, now what? Most of us have been in that position. There were a lot of questions that needed answers. I wanted a variety-filled apprenticeship in an exciting company that would give me the opportunity to find out more about my strengths and weaknesses and give me room to develop. And I found all of that at DMG. I've now been part of the DMG team for almost two decades, which is something that speaks for itself! I have grown a lot during this time and have been able to take part in diverse projects, manage them, or drive them forward as a key user. There have been many enriching experiences on a personal level as well, including forging new friendships.

I started my apprenticeship as a business management assistant at DMG on 1 August 2007. Even now, I still enjoy thinking back to my apprenticeship. I gained a lot of valuable knowledge for my future career at DMG through the insights I gained from working in the different departments during that time. I was always listened to and given a lot of support, and this has continued to this day. After the successful completion of my apprenticeship, I joined the Planning Department. Thanks to the variety of work, great collaboration with colleagues, new areas of responsibility and involvement in various projects, I am still constantly learning new things. The multifaceted nature of my work is something I also still enjoy very much.
